While working toward the completion
of the new Johnson Center for the Arts, the
Board purchased and renovated a warehouse
space directly across the street. The Cultural
Arts Studio, as it was named, immediately
filled a niche in the community as an arts space
dedicated to hosting a variety of visual arts
exhibitions, musical and educational events
throughout the year. It continues to grow in
popularity and has become a valuable arm of
the cultural arts complex.
We strive to make sure that our teachers will be given the tools that will enable them to present the state required curriculum in math, reading, science and social studies using art as a catalyst to engage their students with all three main sensory receivers, vision, auditory, and kinesthetic.
Working with the Pike County and City Boards of Education, we provide teacher workshops partnering with the Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts, and regularly reach out to area Parent Teacher Organizations for input on further ideas to integrate the arts into the classroom.
